It is vitally important to maintain a good seal when installing a cable gland and most of the technology deployed in our cable glands is dedicated to this area. Depending on the environment in which the glands are to be installed, it may be necessary to fit additional sealing devices in order to obtain the required equipment rating.
Maintaining Ingress Protection
CMP Products accessories are available to maintain the Ingress Protection level of the Cable Gland and enclosure. For enclosures where the cable entry is via a through or punched clearance hole and the application requires an IP54, IP55, IP65 or IP66 level of ingress protection, a CMP Products nylon entry thread sealing washer must be used; without this sealing washer the desired level of protection is unlikely to be maintained between the Cable Gland and the enclosure. To achieve and maintain ingress protection ratings of IP67 or IP68, a CMP Products nylon entry thread sealing washer must be used and the Cable Gland must be deluge protected.
When cable entries with tapered threads are installed into taper threaded holes, an entry thread sealing washer cannot be fitted due to the conical nature of the thread; IP66 will be maintained if the connection is ‘wrench tight’ but to achieve and maintain ingress protection ratings of IP67 or IP68, thread grease must be used on tapered threads and the Cable Gland must be deluge protected.

CMP provides a wide range of accessories from locknuts to sealing washers, to ensure the safety and reliability of your electrical system, when it comes to installing our glands. It should be noted that only CMP Products installation accessories are guaranteed to work with CMP Products glands.
Installed at the cable entry interface, between the equipment enclosure and the cable gland and recommended by CMP for use in most typical outdoor situations.

CMP Products’ Grounding locknuts for use with cable glands, conduit fittings, tubing (EMT) fittings and conduit as a means of reliably and safely bonding the locknut (and gland) to the enclosure or equipment.

‘Shake-proof’ Serrated Washers are fitted internally to the equipment before a locknut and act as an anti-vibration device to prevent the Cable Gland or other cable entry devices from inadvertently loosening in service. The standard material is stainless steel. Serrated washers are also used by some clients as a reliable means of achieving earth continuity through cable glands and metallic enclosures or gland plates, without the risk of premature loosening of earth connections.
