EC Chemical Agents Directive (CAD)

The EC Chemical Agents Directive 98/24/EC (CAD) lays down minimum requirements for the protection of workers from risks to their safety and health arising, or likely to arise, from the effects of chemical agents that are present at the workplace or as a result of any work activity involving chemical agents. This directive was introduced so as to help maintain the same common level of safety throughout the European Community.

In the UK, the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH) require employers to control exposure to hazardous substances to prevent ill health. The latest update of the COSHH regulations takes into account The Chemical Agents Directive 98/24/EC (CAD). Further information on the COSHH regulations can be found at the official HSE COSHH website.
